Day 107 Good Hiding Place

I am not sure who came up with this hiding place for the Easter Egg hunt yesterday, but it was a pretty clever. We had a pretty decent day for an egg hunt. There were horrible cold winds at our house, but in town we were protected. The kids had a good time.

Day 106 Glass Balloons

Here is what that reflection I posted a few days ago was taken of at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, AZ.  The Dale Chihuly exhibit was there when we went and this is part of it. A huge bouquet of balloons, all hand blown, stood in one section. I am so glad that we lucked out to have the exhibit there when we visited. That was the day, I was lucky enough to get to shoot with Jill Flynn.

Day 103 Perspective

As you can see, we were not alone, even when way far out in the dunes where there were few footprints. It truly is a photographers dream place to photograph undisturbed sand. The dunes in Death Valley have a terrible problem with so many people making tracks everyday. You pray for windstorms and then get there early. In White Sands, you just know you need to walk a ways to get to “clean” sand.

Day 102 Leaving Tracks

Man has definitely left his tracks in the dunes – some by foot, some by car and some hand.

Day 101 A Magical Experience

Here is a shot of Craig and Larry, our faithful leaders – one is the photography expert and the other is the geology expert. Talk about a perfect combo when you are exploring the White Sands. I now appreciate the dunes for not only their beauty, but for how they came to be and how they are evolving. Thanks to both of you for your guidance. It was a magical experience. I will definitely plan a future return to this wonderland of sand.

Day 100 Look Who Is Here

Lily and Tristan are here visiting! What fun we are having. It is spring break in Wisconsin. Tristan loves the baby chicks. Lily remembers everything on my iPad.

Day 99 Yucca, At Last

Here are the last three photos I will put up of the Yucca plant’s seedpods at White Sands. There is something very regal about these beautiful plants. They are fun to photograph;  as the light changes, so does their color. They often appear a golden brown, but there are times when they are silvery too. They survive in the most challenging growing situation. Sand is constantly trying to take over their living space. So they have learned to survive by adapting to the situation by growing taller.

Day 98 Experts Working

Here is a shot of two of our experts working; one is an expert photographer and the other an expert in Geology with a Phd. Both are people that I admire so much. As you can see, they were working on capturing those picnic table enclosures and doing some adjustments.
