Day 263 Bee About His Business

Tuesday, September 20 – Found this wonderful place in Great Falls to shoot some bee activity. Such beautifully colored guys/gals busy gathering pollen, as you can see. A G11 shot.

Day 262 Early September Morning

Monday, September 19 -  There is nothing like a beautiful fall morning and we are having so many lately. The weather is supposed to turn colder tonight and we will be losing those 90 degree temps. No frost at my house yet, but the low lying areas have had some.

Day 261 Welcome To The World Leif J

Sunday, September 18 – Becca and Emma have a new baby boy cousin; Leif J, who was born September 9. I think it is neat that you are carrying on that middle name of J. Congrats to Audra and Eric; you guys are going to be fantastic parents. That little boy is going to be digging in the dirt right next to you two very soon. Shot this one with my 180mm macro on a very windy day. I don’t mind that movement in the foliage for the background actually.

Day 260 Back To Sitting In Line

Saturday, September 17 – They started resurfacing the Belt Highway again last week. We are back to waiting 15-20 minutes for that pilot car. I shot these during one of those waits at my driveway. There was a thunderstorm rolling in from the south, as you can see.

Day 259 Just What Shep’s Been Looking For

Friday, September 16 – This neat old hydrant is down by the steam museum; could you ask for a better paint job than this? A photographer’s dream!  Shep would love it in front of our house as his private biffy.

.

Day 258 Peeling Paint

Thursday, September 15 -  How about this for some color and texture? I found these old pipes down by an old thrashing machine yesterday. This is an example of stopping and taking a real look at the world around you. I had never noticed the beautiful colors and texture of peeling paint before. There are so many beautiful things around us everyday. We just need to open our eyes and look. This was taken with my new Canon 7D and the 70-300mm lens.

Day 257 Morning At The Museum

Wednesday, September 14 – I went down to the steam museum this morning to do some early morning shooting. These are a few captures that I liked. A great way to start a beautiful day.

Cockle Doodle Doo!!

September 6 – Today is Tiffany’s big day. I sure hope you are taking time for yourself today. Have a wonderful day! This Araucana rooster of our hired man’s is crowing about your special day. Thought you would get a laugh out of him., especially now that you are going to be  a chicken owner.

Day 256 A Return To Lost Lake

Tuesday, September 13 – Some more shots from Lost Lake. I really want to go back there someday soon. Might try to come in from the lower end along the water. My fear of heights kept me from the edge and getting some of the bird shots; lots of swallows and pidgeons.

.

Lots of places to peek through the rocks at the lake below.

The first thing you see is this rough rocky area. The lake is just right over the edge.

Day 255 Lost Lake No Longer Lost, It Is Found!

Monday, September 12 – I have always wondered where Lost Lake was and now I know. Two of my photog friends went with me up there last week; it is close to Geraldine and Fort Benton. What a cool place. I am so afraid of heights that I didn’t get very close to the edge. But the rock formations there are something to see. The road was washed out and we had to navigate a different way, but we did find it and so enjoyed our outing. The rock there is unique to the area and you can even Google it and find it listed there as being found exclusively in that area – Shonkinite. We had a delicious lunch in Fort Benton at the Wake Cup on our way home. A very fun day!

.

Some very cool rock formations, in addition to the lake.

.

This is where you park and walk in. Well posted, I think and amazingly it litter free.

.

I stepped right over the top of a rattlesnake. Kimmie and I thought it was dead at first, that is until it took of at a very fast clip and we both screamed. I found this shed farther down the trail, so this is obviously snake territory.
