Day 264 A Different Kind Of Portrait

Monday, September 21 – Here is a photo I took when I did that shoot with Marilynn and Tyler and friends at the museum. I wanted to do a group portrait and thought this one would work. They all climbed up on the weather rock and the shadow was just right for this silhouette. Weather on Sunday turned out to be cool and rainy. It is supposed to get hot again this week. The weekend was wonderful seeing the twins again. They are getting so big and are just adorable. Tiffany is such a fantastic mom. I had three of the granddaughters here for a couple of hours yesterday chasing kittens. They got so dirty at the barn that they just had to use my jetted tub. And, of course, then they had to warm up in the sauna. I had the honor of spending some time talking photos with Cindy Cieluch on Friday. I think she is the best around and I sure enjoyed getting to see the work she had done of my grandsons. Lovely lady who does lovely pictures!!

Day 263 The Outhouse

Sunday, September 20 – I shot this one of the outhouse at our cabin. The yarrow is beautiful up there right now. Outhouses are not my favorite thing to visit for sure. My dad has been wanting me to do a collection of shots of outhouse, so maybe this will be the first one. Last night was yummy at the Grand Union. The three of us had steaks with an awesome mushroom/onion sauce on them and on top of Nick’s mashed potatoes. Dessert was chocolate cheesecake, mocha swirl cheesecake and coffee ice cream. We sat next to a 92 year old lawyer who comes out bird hunting every year. He is such a hoot and was so entertaining. I think Martha liked her outing too. I gave Walter his new Acer netbook when we got home and he was up until after midnight surfing. We are off to breakfast this morning in town. It rained a little last night and looks like it could again today. The cooler weather is very welcomed.

Day 262 Walter’s Birthday!!

Saturday, September 19 – Today is Walter’s 61st birthday. We are finally the same age!! I am sure that I will hear all about how I am older come January. We are heading to the Grand Union for supper with Martha tonight. I am going to the Farmer’s Market this morning. This is a shot of the old chicken house at our cabin in the Highwoods. Walter loves it up there and I thought this would be one he would like in honor of his birthday.

Day 261 Katie, The Future Snow White

Friday, September 18 – Today is babysitting day for Tristan and Lily. Tiffany is coming with the twins too. I am so excited to see them all. The boys are a whole month older now and  getting cuter all the time, I am sure. They were so much fun to shoot on their 6 month birthday. One more day and Walter turns a year older. I am going to make reservations for Saturday night to take him to the Grand Union. I got his present a couple of days ago and he is going to be thrilled. He has always said he wanted a netbook like mine that I travel with. So he is going to get his own little Acer Aspire One to surf on.  Here are a couple shots of Marilynn’s best buddy, Katie. She is the prettiest little girl with that gorgeous porcelain skin and dark hair and eyes. I wish I had had a reflector to put more catch light in her eyes though. She is a great model and always willing to pose. Thanks, Katie, for letting me take your picture.

Day 260 Hitching A Ride

Thursday, September 17 – Aimee and I had such a nice time with Mom yesterday. We took her to lunch where they treated her to a birthday balloon with cow print on it and a free hot fudge sundae. Then we went clothes shopping. She ended up with a whole sack full; skirt, three blouses and two jackets. What a fun day!! It is hard to believe Mom is really 82; she certainly doesn’t act it! Tomorrow is babysitting day. Tristan and Lily will be here in the morning for a couple of hours and Tiffany will be bringing the twins if they feel okay. One of them was sick on Wednesday, so she may have to cancel.  I took this shot of a mature Burdock plant right in front of my house. The burs are just waiting to catch a ride on someone’s pant leg. Looks to me like a dandelion seed might have hitched a ride along with them.

Day 259 Happy 82nd Birthday, Mom

Wednesday, September 16 – Today is Mom’s 82nd birthday. My sis and I are taking our mom shopping to find some new clothes and have lunch. Mom loves ice cream, so I think we are heading to The Udder Company. It is back to warm weather again this week; nice for seeding. I shot some sunrise photos this morning. We haven’t had many good sunrises or sunsets lately which is surprising since there is so much smoke in the air lately. I did two different vignettes on a flower photo I took last week; one dark and one light. Vignetting is something I love and I finally figured out how to do it in Lightroom. I just couldn’t make my mind up about which I liked best, so I am sharing both.

Day 258 Happy Anniversary, Tiffany

Tuesday, September 15 – Today is Tiffany and Bryant’s anniversary – Congrats to you two!! I have been busy getting ready for Mom’s 82nd birthday Wednesday and Walter’s on Saturday. My sis and I are going to take Mom shopping for some new clothes and to lunch. I think I will make a reservation at the Grand Union to surprise Walter.

Day 257 A Bit Of Backlighting And High Key

Monday, September 14 – Here are some shots of Becca from our Gibson Park excursion. She is so much fun to photograph. We went to the cabin today and put the new screens on the windows. Yuck, the flies and millers were horrid. We vacuumed a whole bunch up and that helped some, but we have to find out where in the world they are finding a place to get inside. It really ruins the cabin experience for me. I did get some photos of the old buildings and landscapes. We got Mom and Dad ‘s building all emptied out  and I got my treasures home. Mom’s cradle is just cool; unlike anything that I have seen before. Should make a perfect photo prop. Her red wagon is pretty awesome too. They sure don’t make them like that anymore.  It was a very bittersweet day for us all. It was so hard for Mom to go through her things and recall some of the sad times. Seeing all those charred things from the fire was really hard. It is so hard watching my folks grow older. I so appreciate all the things that they did for me through the years. I need to tell them more often how much they mean to me.

Day 256 The Many Faces Of Emma

Sunday, September 13 – Some shots from Gibson Park. Emma loves to ‘ham it up’ and she did a good job while peeking through the gym equipment at the park. We are heading up to the mountains today to give Mom and Dad some help cleaning out a shed. It was brisk this morning and it won’t be long before we have frost, I am thinking. Fall is in the air.

Day 255 My Daddy Raises Wheat

Saturday, September 12 – Maybe this isn’t the year to talk about raising wheat!! I had to do a hands shot for class and thought this would work.  That fire by Holter Lake is now over 3000 acres and still out of control. It burned 4 RV’s/campers. The wind has blown all day and has now switched to the north. My throat has been sore all day from the smoke. It filled the house last night. I went to lunch with Aimee today at Salad Creations, the new salad bar restaurant. It was really good, but I thought pricey for what you got. I didn’t ride this morning like planned, because the smoke was so thick. It looked like fog out when we got up. So, I think my horse will be heading out early tomorrow.
